There are many interesting byways here.

My gut feeling about Henry is that he was simply in the wrong job. To make it worse, he was in it at a time when even an extraordinary ruler, like Elizabeth I, Oliver Cromwell or Isabella the Catholic (to name but three), would have found the going hard. I find it hard to blame him personally. He probably did his best with such talent he had, much as I would try to do if I was suddenly picked for the England cricket team. (I am probably about as fit for that as he was for kingship.)Brian Wainwrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16867772590464992131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342742228702877343.post-60841430725735262992009-03-30T15:00:00.000+01:002009-03-30T15:00:00.000+01:00Henry VI was no saint, but I read that for awhile ...Henry VI was no saint, but I read that for awhile there were miracles ascribed to him by visitors to his tomb. A history buff friend of mine posits that he was autistic, whatever the framework then for that concept could be discerned. His character and lack of kingly heavy-handedness was a big factor in the WOTR. I like to think of him as a person in the wrong job, a henpecked husband, a study in mediocrity. His final years and death are heartbreaking.Judyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09566395146321751551noreply@blogger.com
